Sell Your Bowie House, Levitt Classic or Newer Build
Bowie is the largest city in Prince George’s County, and a big part of it started as Belair at Bowie, the Levitt and Sons development that began in 1961. Those Cape Cods, ranchers and colonials still line the lettered sections, surrounded by newer neighborhoods out toward Route 301 and Route 214. I’m Evan Weissman. I buy Bowie houses for cash as-is, and I list them too when the market will pay more.

Levitt Homes Are Now Over 60 Years Old
The original Belair houses were built fast and built to a few standard models, and most have been changed since. Some owners added second floors, family rooms or garages. Others kept things close to original. Either way, by now many of them need a new roof, updated wiring, replacement windows and a look at the plumbing under the slab or in the crawl space.
Because buyers know these models so well, they also know what an unfinished one looks like. If yours needs a lot, a cash sale can save you from months of contractors. If it’s already been redone, a listing often makes more sense, and I’ll tell you that.
I’ll look at almost any house: single-family, townhome, row, twin, or multi-family, any age, any condition, any situation.
Old Town, Newer Sections and City Taxes
Bowie isn’t only Levitt. Old Town Bowie grew up around the railroad junction, with older frame houses on small lots. Out past Route 197 and toward Route 301, you’ll find subdivisions from the 1980s through the 2000s, plenty of townhomes, and HOAs. Belair Mansion and the Belair Stable Museum are a reminder that the land was a horse farm long before it was a suburb.
Inside city limits, Bowie charges its own property tax, 0.58 per $100 in SDAT’s 2026-27 table, with a lower county rate. Some Bowie mailing addresses are outside the city, so check your bill.
Prince George’s Paperwork
Bowie estates go through the Prince George’s Register of Wills in the courthouse at 14735 Main Street in Upper Marlboro. The county tax sale was May 11 in 2026 on SDAT’s list. Prince George’s charges a 1.4% transfer tax plus recordation of $2.75 per $500, split however your contract says. If you rent the house out, the county requires a rental license for single-family rentals.
Three Ways to Sell
Option 1: I buy the house as it is
No roof, window or wiring work first. I pay no commission on my purchase, and the title company closes on the date you choose.
Option 2: List it with me for the open market
Updated Belair homes are familiar to buyers and can sell well. Listing costs a commission and takes longer, and I’ll put both nets in writing.
Option 3: Renovate and Sell Together
Where it fits, Evan can handle and pay for the updates under a written agreement, then sell on the open market. The cost of that work is repaid at settlement. You keep ownership until the sale. There is no guaranteed sale price or profit. Review any agreement with your own attorney before you sign.
I renovate most houses I buy with my own crew, and if I partner with another local buyer on yours, I’ll tell you before you sign.
Side-by-side paths: cash offer vs listing in Maryland.
Behind on Mortgage Payments
If you are behind on your mortgage or facing foreclosure, start with free help before you decide anything. A HUD-approved housing counselor costs nothing and can walk you through options with your servicer, such as catching up, a repayment plan, forbearance, or a loan modification. The Maryland HOPE hotline, 1-877-462-7555, connects homeowners with those counselors. If you have court papers or a sale date, I also recommend talking with a Maryland attorney. I can’t promise to stop a foreclosure, and I won’t pressure you. If you and your counselor decide a sale makes sense, I’ll put a cash number next to a listing plan so you can compare. Will you buy an original Levitt house in Bowie that has never been updated?
Yes. Original Belair houses are some of my favorite buys in the county. I price the updates in, and you leave everything as it is.
Does the City of Bowie tax change what my house is worth?
Buyers look at the total tax bill, so it plays a part. I include it when I compare my cash offer to a listing so you see the full picture.
Can I sell a Bowie house with an addition that was never permitted?
Yes. Tell me what you know about it. I buy houses with unpermitted additions and take care of it after closing.
Do I need a rental license to sell my Bowie rental?
Not to sell it. A buyer will ask about the license and the lease, though. I can buy it with the tenant in place.
Where do I file probate for a Bowie house?
At the Prince George’s Register of Wills in the courthouse on Main Street in Upper Marlboro. A personal representative can sign once appointed.
