The City of Laurel grew up around a cotton mill on the Patuxent River and was incorporated in 1870. Main Street still has its old storefronts and houses, and the MARC station still runs commuters to Baltimore and Washington. This page covers Laurel houses in Prince George’s County, inside and outside city limits. I’m Evan Weissman. I buy them for cash as-is, and I list them too.

Old Laurel and the Newer Neighborhoods

Around Main Street and the old mill area, there are Victorian and early 1900s frame houses, some on narrow lots, many with additions. South and east of the city, neighborhoods like Montpelier and the streets off Route 197 and Route 198 have ranchers, split-levels and colonials from the 1960s and 70s, plus newer townhome sections. Montpelier Mansion, run by the park commission, is one of the area’s landmarks.

The old houses often need foundation, roof and electrical work. The mid-century ones need systems and kitchens. I’ll look at any of them and price the work in.

I’ll look at almost any house: single-family, townhome, row, twin, or multi-family, any age, any condition, any situation.

City Tax, County Lines and the River

Inside City of Laurel limits, there’s a city property tax, 0.71 per $100 in SDAT’s 2026-27 table, along with a lower county rate. Outside the city, you pay only the county rate. Laurel addresses also reach into Howard and Anne Arundel, and the Laurel Park horse track is actually in Anne Arundel. Check SDAT so we know which county and city rules apply.

Houses close to the Patuxent can be in a floodplain, and the river has pushed into low parts of town in big storms before. Ask your insurance agent about your flood zone.

Records for a Prince George’s Laurel House

Estates go to the Prince George’s Register of Wills at 14735 Main Street in Upper Marlboro. The county tax sale was May 11 in 2026 on SDAT’s list. If you rent the house, Prince George’s requires a rental license for single-family rentals, and the city has its own rental rules inside its limits.

Three Ways to Sell

Option 1: Sell to me with nothing fixed

No contractor calls, no showings and no commission on my side. You pick the date, and a title company handles closing.

Option 2: List it with me

Updated houses near the MARC station or Main Street can draw strong interest. Listing costs a commission and time, so I’ll show you the net both ways.

Option 3: Renovate and Sell Together

Where it fits, Evan can handle and pay for the updates under a written agreement, then sell on the open market. The cost of that work is repaid at settlement. You keep ownership until the sale. There is no guaranteed sale price or profit. Review any agreement with your own attorney before you sign.

I renovate most houses I buy with my own crew, and if I partner with another local buyer on yours, I’ll tell you before you sign.

Side-by-side paths: cash offer vs listing in Maryland.

Behind on Mortgage Payments

If you are behind on your mortgage or facing foreclosure, start with free help before you decide anything. A HUD-approved housing counselor costs nothing and can walk you through options with your servicer, such as catching up, a repayment plan, forbearance, or a loan modification. The Maryland HOPE hotline, 1-877-462-7555, connects homeowners with those counselors. If you have court papers or a sale date, I also recommend talking with a Maryland attorney. I can’t promise to stop a foreclosure, and I won’t pressure you. If you and your counselor decide a sale makes sense, I’ll put a cash number next to a listing plan so you can compare. More here: behind on mortgage or facing foreclosure.

Is my Laurel house inside City of Laurel limits?

Your tax bill will show a city tax line if it is. SDAT’s real property search also lists it. Many Laurel addresses are outside the city.

Will you buy an old Laurel house near Main Street?

Yes. Old foundations, wiring and plaster are part of what I buy. You don’t need to fix anything first.

Can I sell a Laurel house near the Patuxent that has flooded?

Yes. Tell me when the water came in and what was repaired, and I’ll factor it into my offer.

Do you buy Laurel houses in Howard or Anne Arundel too?

Yes. I buy across all of them. The taxes and probate office just follow the county the house is in.

Where do I file probate for a Prince George’s Laurel house?

At the Prince George’s Register of Wills in the courthouse on Main Street in Upper Marlboro.

Do you buy Laurel townhomes in HOA communities off Route 197?

Yes. Order the HOA resale package from your management company, and I’ll handle the rest with the title company. Past-due dues get paid from the proceeds at settlement.
