Sell Your House Fast in Taneytown, Maryland
Taneytown is older than the county it sits in. Edward Diggs and Raphael Taney took up the land in 1754, lots were laid out in 1762, and the town was named for Raphael Taney, not the Supreme Court justice people often assume. It sits where MD 140 and MD 194 cross, and the old Taneytown Road still runs north about a dozen miles to Gettysburg. I’m Evan Weissman. I buy Taneytown houses for cash as-is, and I’ll list yours if the open market will pay more.

Downtown Taneytown Housing
Baltimore Street (MD 140) is the spine of town, with brick and frame houses close to the sidewalk, many built in the 1800s and early 1900s. Behind them are side streets of later homes, and on the edges of the city are subdivisions from the 1990s and 2000s with vinyl-sided colonials and townhomes. The older downtown homes often have the expensive problems: stone foundations, original windows, old electrical service, and additions built by owners decades ago.
I’ll look at almost any house: single-family, townhome, row, twin, or multi-family, any age, any condition, any situation.
Farms and Crossroads Around the City
Taneytown mailing addresses spread well beyond the city line, out to Keymar, Harney, Uniontown and the farm country along the Frederick County border. Those properties often include a farmhouse, a bank barn, sheds and acreage, all on a private well and septic. Settling an estate that includes a farm can be a big project, and I can buy the whole thing, outbuildings and contents included, or just the house and a lot if the land is going elsewhere.
City Taxes and Services
Taneytown is a city with its own government at 17 East Baltimore Street, and homes inside the limits pay the city rate, $0.37 per $100 for 2026-27, on top of Carroll’s $1.018. The city’s homestead cap is 10%. Most homes in town are on city water and sewer; outside the limits, wells and septic are the norm.
Estates, Taxes and Closing
When a Taneytown owner dies, the estate opens at the Carroll County Register of Wills, Courthouse Annex, 55 North Court Street, Westminster. Once a personal representative is appointed, they can sign. If county taxes are behind, Carroll set its 2026 tax sale for June 26. At settlement, recordation is $6.50 per $500, the state charges 0.5% transfer tax, and Carroll charges no county transfer tax. See inherited houses and behind on property taxes.
Three Ways to Sell
Option 1: A cash sale with no repairs
I buy it as it stands: no fixing, no cleaning out, no showings. I pay no commission on my purchase, and you pick the settlement date.
Option 2: A listing with me as your agent
Taneytown’s newer subdivisions draw buyers looking for more space for the money. If your house is ready, listing may net more. It takes longer and costs a commission, and I’ll compare both options plainly.
Option 3: Renovate and Sell Together
Where it fits, Evan can handle and pay for the updates under a written agreement, then sell on the open market. The cost of that work is repaid at settlement. You keep ownership until the sale. There is no guaranteed sale price or profit. Review any agreement with your own attorney before you sign.
I renovate most houses I buy with my own crew, and if I partner with another local buyer on yours, I’ll tell you before you sign.

Behind on Mortgage Payments
If you are behind on your mortgage or facing foreclosure, start with free help before you decide anything. A HUD-approved housing counselor costs nothing and can walk you through options with your servicer, such as catching up, a repayment plan, forbearance, or a loan modification. The Maryland HOPE hotline, 1-877-462-7555, connects homeowners with those counselors. If you have court papers or a sale date, I also recommend talking with a Maryland attorney. I can’t promise to stop a foreclosure, and I won’t pressure you. If you and your counselor decide a sale makes sense, I’ll put a cash number next to a listing plan so you can compare. Do you buy farms around Taneytown?
Yes. Farmhouses, barns and acreage are welcome, and I can work around crop or pasture leases if the land is rented out.
Will you buy an old house on Baltimore Street?
Yes. Old foundations, windows and wiring don’t scare me off. I price the work in and you leave it behind.
Is Taneytown a city or a town for tax purposes?
It’s a city with its own tax rate, $0.37 per $100 for 2026-27, for homes inside its limits, in addition to the Carroll County rate.
Do you buy in Keymar, Harney and Uniontown?
Yes. Those areas often use Taneytown or nearby mailing addresses, and I buy across all of them.
Can I sell my Taneytown house with tenants in it?
Yes. I buy with tenants in place and honor existing leases. See the page on selling with tenants.
